Wedding guest book ideas.
Messages to open over the years.
The classic signature book gets leafed through once and ends up in a drawer. But it can be much more: a collection of guest messages to open on your first anniversary, your tenth, the day a child arrives.

A wedding guest book can work like a time capsule: instead of signatures, guests write messages to open on set dates, such as your first anniversary. All you need are cards with a prompt question, envelopes sorted by date and someone to collect them at the end of the party.
Shared memories are good for a couple
Three studies published in PLOS ONE asked people how they use memories of their love story. Those who look back on moments as a couple to feel close to their partner report more intimacy and more satisfaction in the relationship. The link is small, but it's there.
people took part in the three studies on relationship memories and relationship quality.
A guest book designed to be reopened is exactly that: a way to go back to that day together, in the words of the people who were there.
8 ideas for a different kind of guest book
1. Letters to open over the years
Envelopes marked “Open on our first anniversary”, “Open when a baby arrives”, “Open in ten years”. Each guest chooses one.
2. Prompt questions
A card with a question on every table. Guests who don't know what to write get a starting point, and the messages become more personal.
3. Guest predictions
“In ten years you'll be…”: where you'll live, who'll do the cooking, how many cats you'll have. Great fun to reread.
4. Advice from long-married couples
Ask grandparents and long-married aunts and uncles for one piece of advice in a sentence. It will become your little handbook.
5. Voice and video messages
A corner with a phone on a tripod or a vintage telephone: your loved ones' voices, to listen to again.
6. Instant photos with a note
Each guest takes a photo and writes a couple of lines underneath. An album of faces and words.
7. Recipes for your new home
Each family leaves a favourite recipe, handwritten. Your first kitchen will already have a story.
8. A letter between the two of you
Before the ceremony, write each other a letter and seal it in with the guests' messages. You'll open it together.
Questions to leave on the tables
Print them on cards, one per table, or all on the same sheet.

Four steps, from the reception to your first anniversary
- Choose the dates. First anniversary, fifth, tenth: two or three dates are enough. The more you add, the more likely they are to get lost.
- Prepare envelopes and cards. A colour or label for each date, a pen on every table, a box to collect them.
- Ask a witness to collect them. At the end of the party they close the box and hand it to you, sealed.
- Keep them and digitise them. Photograph the cards: paper wears out, photos don't. That way the messages are safe even if the box gets lost in a move.
The guest book that reopens itself
Photograph the cards, gather your guests' audio and video messages and put them in a capsule. They'll arrive on the day you've chosen.
Gather
Photos of the cards, voice messages, videos, your own letter: all in one place.
Choose who will receive it

Choose the day
Your first anniversary, your tenth, or a day only you two know.
Erabox keeps your memories on servers in Switzerland and delivers them on the day you chose, even many years from now.
